Trussville Youth Football Parents,

Registration is now open for the 2025 fall seasonLast year, we attained a record number of players in our program. We were also able to field 2 teams in each age group. We are excited about the upcoming 2025 season and look to accomplish 2 teams per age group once again.

Registration will be open from April 1, 2025 to May 31, 2025You can use this link to register your player: registration.bluesombrero.com

As a reminder, registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. It is important that you register as soon as possible. Once registered players in each age group reach 30 kids, players 31-39 will be wait-listed until that age group reaches 40 players. We will send updates throughout registration to keep you informedYou are encouraged to register your player as soon as possible. See below for more information.

2025 Coach Selections:

The following coaches have been named for each age group:

1st/2nd Grade – Weston Weller (Incumbent and Team 1) and Roy Gunter (Team 2 if split occurs

3rd Grade – Wes Gilmer (Incumbent and Team 1) and Murphy Durrett (Team 2 if split occurs)

4th GradeTravis Loyd (Incumbent and National) and Ryan Floyd (American if split occurs)

5th Grade – Virgil King (National) and Joe Crawford (Incumbent and American if split occurs

6th Grade – Chris Mills (Incumbent and National) and Bo Morrison (American if split occurs)

The incumbent coach named will be the primary coach if there is only one team. If a split occurs, the incumbent will have the choice to coach either the National or American team (4th thru 6th grade only.)

JSYFL League Guidance:

The following guidelines are in place from JSYFL:

  1. A mandatory split in each age group occurs at 51 players. A given park can choose to split at a lower player count, but the maximum any park can roster is 50 players on single team.

  1. 1st/2nd Grade football will play 8 man football. Governed under AISA (Alabama Independent School Association) rules with JSFYL stipulations/amendments to follow.

  1. If 10 teams are registered for any single age group (4th thru 6th grade), JSYFL will form a “National” and an “American” League. The intent of doing this is to try to put like-skilled players together. After registration, each team will submit to JSYFL the number of returning players, returning coaches, record from the previous year, etc. Based on this input, the league will vote on whether a team goes into the National or the American League.

Both the National and American league teams are competitive leagues. Generally, higher skilled and experienced players are selected for the National league team. This is not always the case, however, as players are chosen for each position level: quarterback, lineman, and skills player. First time players are generally placed on the American league team, unless evaluations warrant placing them on the National league team. This is at the coaches and athletic directors’ discretion and your youth player’s safety remains our top priority.

TYFL Guidelines:

Based on input from parents and coaches, TYFL uses the following guidelines

  1. TYFL will look to split teams at 40 players, provided the following:

  1. We have a capable quarterback for each team.

  1. We can field linemen for each team.

  1. If we do split an age group, we would allow incumbent coaches to retain 2 assistant coaches and up to 7 players total in a first-year split. The second coach would then get the next 7 player picks. The balance of the players would be selected on a one for one basis. If we are splitting an age group for the 2nd year in a row, both incumbent coaches could retain 2 assistant coaches and up to 9 players total. If a 3rd year in a row, both incumbent coaches could retain 2 assistant coaches and up to 11 players total. The balance of the players would be selected on a one for one basis. Coaches and the Athletic Directors have the discretion to agree to different split procedures provided the agreement among all is unanimous.

  1. We require that all age groups run the middle and high school offense and defense. This will help our players to be as successful as possible in both middle and high school.

The primary purpose of these guidelines is to ensure the safety of our players. Safety remains our top priority. In addition, we hope these guidelines accomplish the following:

  • allows our players to have fun

  • makes our teams and our program as competitive as possible

  • enhances our players fundamental understanding of the game and their positions

  • develops our players as leaders both on and off the field

Ultimately, we want to establish guidelines that contribute to the best possible experience for our players. Our desire is for our players to end the season wanting to return and bringing their friends back next year so that we can continue to grow the program.
